Understanding the Parent & Grandparent Program
After a long hiatus, IRCC announced the launch of the 2020 Parent & Grandparent – Interest to Sponsor Lottery on October 5, 2020.
Historically, the lottery opens at a specific time and is open until all spots are filled - typically, this was a few seconds to minutes. In 2020, they have opened the lottery for 3 full weeks, allowing those who are interested to complete the Interest to Sponsor form anytime between October 13, 2020 at noon EDT before November 3, 2020 at noon EST.
Once the lottery closes, the IRCC will randomly select those who are invited to apply to sponsor. They will send enough emails to ensure the cap of 10,000 will be reached. Just because you are invited to apply DOES NOT mean you qualify to sponsor.
