Commissioner for Taking Affidavits

In April 2021, I was appointed as a Commissioner for Taking Affidavits in the province of Ontario. I will now be able to offer this service to my clients both in-person and remotely.

What is an Affidavit?

An affidavit is a written declaration or statement of facts that is sworn or affirmed before a Commissioner for Taking Affidavits or a Notary Public.

What is a Commissioner for Taking Affidavits?

A Commissioner for Taking Affidavits has been appointed by the Ministry of the Attorney General to conduct or commission affidavits. They are bound by the Commissioners for Taking Affidavits Act.

How could an affidavit strengthen my case?

Affidavits are written testimony that is presumably true and must be taken at face value. An affidavit could address gaps in your application including missing documentation/evidence or a sworn declaration could be made to support a visitor visa (TRV) application, for example. Adding an affidavit to your application, where applicable, requires that the decision-maker (officer, court, etc.) read your affidavit.

Be sure to discuss with your Immigration Consultant if an affidavit is appropriate for your application.
