Immediate Family Members wishing to visit Temporary Canadian Residents
Immediate family members of Canadian temporary resident may enter Canada to visit you, as long as they:
Receive authorization from the Canadian Government to travel to Canada *
Have the proper travel documentation (find out if your family member needs a visa or eTA, by completing the form here)
Have a valid passport
Are symptom-free of COVID
Present proof that they are your extended family member, if requested
Provide proof that you are a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or person registered under Canada’s Indian Act, if requested
Show proof that they will stay in Canada for 15 days or more or that they are travelling for a non-discretionary reason
A quarantine plan for the first 14 days after their arrival at their final destination
* If your family member is traveling directly from the United States, they do not require written authorization to travel to Canada.
Who qualifies as an immediate family member?
From the perspective of the Canadian temporary resident, an immediate family member is your:
spouse
common-law partner
dependent children
dependent child’s dependent children
parents
step-parents
guardian
How do you apply for authorization to travel?
The process to apply for authorization depends on whether: you already have a visitor visa or your visitor visa application is in process; you need a visitor visa but you haven’t applied yet, you have or need an eTA; or you do not require a visitor visa to travel to Canada.
